What I enjoy about my job
When the phone rings I have absolutely no idea the questions that will be asked for which I need to find an appropriate answer. Issues can range from holiday calculations to considering sick pay/leave for an employee having elective plastic surgery, to whether TUPE applies to a given situation or if an employee just walked out of the door – did they resign? Being able to advise on the law, explore the potential risks and come up with a solid plan for my client is incredibly satisfying.
How I ‘make it happen’ for my clients
I see myself as an extension of my client’s in-house team. I take time to get to know their business and how they operate, which helps me to come up with the right solution or range of options for them in any given situation.
A bit about my background
It was the glamour of LA Law that first ignited my interest in the legal world. I obtained a Masters in International Commercial Law in 2000 and was admitted as a solicitor in 2003 having completed my training with a medium size commercial firm in Lincoln’s Inn. After qualification, I arrived at Morgan Russell (the predecessor to Dixcart Legal) and came the realisation that legal life is a smidge different from the LA Law life I was led to believe!
What I wish I’d known at the start of my career
I wish I had also studied psychology, as so much of the issues I advise on concern personal interactions and reactions to complex situations.
You might not know this about me but…
I once flew to Australia for the weekend to surprise my best friend by jumping out of a box at her birthday party. A long way to go but to see the look on her face – priceless!
