What I enjoy about my job
Working with a great team and dealing with a wide variety of clients. You never quite know what’s coming in each day, but it’s a great feeling being able to help and reassure my clients with their business (and sometimes personal) problems.
How I ‘make it happen’ for my clients
I head up the accounting, audit and tax teams, so my challenge is to ensure that we are all communicating and working well together to help our clients run their businesses more efficiently, whilst ensuring that they are staying compliant with all the regulations, of course. I’m keen to use new software and technology to make this happen, as I find them both exciting and interesting.
A bit about my background
I trained with a local Surrey firm during which time I backpacked round the world twice. I then settled down and joined Dixcart in 1996 as an Audit Manager and I still work with some of the same people, which is testament to the ‘family’ environment here. I became Director in 2009 and, more recently, became COO in charge of the office and our people.
What I wish I’d known at the start of my career
That accounting isn’t really about maths! It’s all about people and managing our relationships with our clients and our colleagues.
You might not know this about me but…
I’m a little bit of an adrenalin junkie speed freak! Whether it’s motorbikes, fast cars, horses, roller coasters or skiing. I love that exhilarating feeling of the wind in my hair!
