What I enjoy about my job
I enjoy seeing exactly how businesses operate and I am fascinated by the risks that different industries face. I meet a variety of people, visit some amazing places and I am excited by finding solutions to tricky problems.
How I ‘make it happen’ for my clients
Auditing isn’t just a tick box compliance exercise. I try to add value by suggesting control and operational improvements and I enjoy it when I see that my recommendations have been implemented.
A bit about my background
After graduating, I trained with a top 10 firm of Chartered Accountants. I moved to a small firm to gain exposure to a more varied client portfolio and then spent a short time in a large charity in industry. I quickly realised that I preferred working with a variety of clients, so I went back into practice, joining Dixcart in 2016.
What I wish I’d known at the start of my career
Early on in my career, I was desperate to get out of the profession. I later realised that auditing isn’t just a process but an exciting overview of a business and how it operates. I’ve had first-hand experience of business arrangements, transactions and scenarios that I wouldn’t have seen elsewhere.
You might not know this about me but…
I have a keen interest in history and once ‘helped’ on an archaeological dig that Time Team was filming. I somehow managed to fall down a pit and disturbed some Roman remains. Unsurprisingly, I was never asked back on a dig and soon abandoned my dream of becoming an archaeologist.
